The Property Tax Assessment Appeal Board is an​ independent agency whose members are appointed by the Governor for each of the 23 Maryland counties and Baltimore City. ​

PTAAB is not part of the State Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT).​

The process to appeal your property tax assessment starts with SDAT. Use this online form to appeal your assessment notice within 45 days of the notice date.

If you are not satisfied with the decision of the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation, you can appeal the decision with PTAAB. 

Be sure to carefully follow the directions provided on the SDAT notice or decision letter. You will have thirty days from the date of the decision to appeal to your local Property Tax Assessment Appeal Board.​
